Senior Chinese Military Officer Meets Colombian Guests

Fu Quanyou, chief of the general staff of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China, met Tuesday with Colombian Minister of Defense Luis Fernando Ramirez Acuna, Commander of the army Jorge Enrique Mora Rangel and their delegation.

Fu, who is also a member of the Central Military Commission, said that the bilateral relations, including the military exchange, have been expanding since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1980.

He said that he hopes the military relations between the two countries will continue to grow steadily and healthily.

Fu also briefed the guests on China's military building.

He told the guests that China has taken an active part in bilateral and multilateral security consultations and the peace-keeping actions of the United Nations, thus making its due contribution to the maintenance of world peace.

Ramirez said that he hopes his visit will further the relations between the two countries and their armed forces, adding that Columbia recognizes the increasingly important role of China in world affairs.

Columbia will continue to stick to the "one-China" policy, Ramirez pledged.

Ramirez briefed Fu on the domestic situation in Columbia.
