Tibetan Cultural Relics Be Shown in ShanghaiThe Tibet Autonomous Region is to put on show its exquisite cultural relics in an exhibition in Shanghai, China's largest metropolis, in May 2001, a Tibetan cultural relics official announced Monday in Urumqi."The exhibition will help local residents to have a better understanding of Tibet, and it is sure to create quite a stir among all walks of life in Shanghai," said Jin Yuwen, an official of the Shanghai Municipal Cultural Heritage Management Committee. The Shanghai Museum has sent experts to Tibet to prepare for the transportation of the exhibits, she said. The three cities of Lhasa, Xigaze and Gyangze have been listed by the state as famous historical sites in Tibet. Potala Palace, a symbolic architecture which serves as the region's political and religious center for centuries, has been included in the World Heritage list. The exhibits will be chosen from the rich collections there. A recent survey on cultural relics in Tibet shows that the region has 1,768 places of historical interests including cliff painting, castles, palaces, temples and military ruins. |
