Fashion Fair Attracts Famous Design

The whole of Dalian City in Liaoning Province has immersed itself in the country's biggest fashion festival, which started on September 16.

For the city's 2 million citizens, the 10-day Dalian International Fashion Festival provides another chance of dressing in their holiday best and beautifying their home city which is already famous for its unique seaside views.

After its opening ceremony performance, "Hail to the New Century," the festival became a grand meeting and holiday haunt for more than 700,000 people, including statesmen, diplomats, fashion designers, models, garment manufacturers and salesmen from more than 20 countries.

"Thanks to so many friends coming from home and abroad, our city has caught the attention of the whole world," acting Mayor Li Yongjin said.

Fashion Fair Attracts Famous Design

Originating in 1988 as the country's first garment fair, the festival has been called one of the country's most important events, not only in fashion circles but also in the fields of business, tourism, culture and art.

Besides about 1,000 companies attracted to the garment fair, part of this year's festival which is sure to reach a transaction volume of billions of yuan, troupes from Russia, Spain, Egypt and Brazil will join the revelry with more than 10,000 performers to add zest to the mass parade.

Austria's Vienna Holiday Orchestra, headed by Peter Gut, will make a special trip to the city to perform.

More than 50 European models will also present a host of top Italian brands, such as Zegna, Les Copains and Agnona.
