China Win Women's Gymnastics Olympic Team Bronze


China Women's Team Ranks Third at Women's Gymnastics Team
The Chinese girls turned on superb performances on the uneven bars and balance beam to claim their first Olympic team bronze medal since 1992 here at the Sydney SuperDome on Tuesday.

The Chinese gymnasts, who went into last two rotations leading top qualifiers Russia, was pushed back to third place after Svetlana Khorkina delivered a flawless floor routine which won a 9.787 points and sealed the silver for her country.

Romania coasted to their historic Olympic women's team gold with a total of 154.608 points, with Russia finishing second with 39.037 and China third with 37.874.

"I didn't expect the bronze medal," said China's women's coach Lu Shanzhen. "Our girls delivered some great routines on the bars and beam.

"That's an exciting moment for the Chinese women's gymnastics."
