Monthly Passenger Arrivals to Macao Hit Record in August

Passenger arrivals to China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) by means of marine, land and air routes reached 900,974 in August this year, the biggest monthly number ever recorded in official statistics.

The figure rose by 30.4 percent over the same month of last year, according to a press release issued Tuesday by the Statistics and Census Services of the Macao SAR government.

Passengers from China's Hong Kong SAR, the inland areas and Taiwan accounted for 58.7 percent, 21.8 percent and 13.8 percent respectively.

In a whole, the number of passengers from January to August this year exceeded 6.1 million, an increase of 22.8 percent over a year earlier.

Local analysts said the growing number of passengers directly benefits from better public security since the founding of the Macao SAR late last year.

Tourism officials expect that eight million tourists will come to Macao this year.
