Activities for Old People to Be Held in Macao

A series of activities will be held in Macao in the coming several months to promote happy and colorful life among the aged, local officials said at a press conference Tuesday.

On October 15, old people in Macao will have their handicrafts exhibited in a downtown square. They will be ready to talk about their handicraft on the spot. As many as 41 stands will be set up by a number of old folk's homes.

A sports meet for the old will be held on October 29. It is estimated that 2,700 elderly people will participate in the games. To add fun, some old people will give gymnastic performance in the meantime.

On November 10, some veterans in the service for old people from Hong Kong will be invited to give lectures on organizing activities for the aged.

In addition, some 400 old people over the age of 65 will have the opportunity to go sight-seeing on the Taipa and Coloane islands on December 1.

Every year since 1992, the governmental Social Welfare Institute has been making concerted efforts with some other governmental departments and non-governmental organizations to manage activities for the elderly people.
