Chen Xiaomin Wins Second Weightlfting Title for China


Chen Xiaomin Wins 63 kg Weighlifting
China continued its domination of the Olympic women's weightlifting competition on Tuesday when Chen Xiaomin took the gold medal with two new world records in the 63-kilogram category.

The 23-year-old Chen lifted a combined 242.5 kilograms to grab the China's second title at the Olympic debut event, beating the previous mark of 240.0 kgs set by Chen Yui-lien of Chinese Taipei in the world champioships on November 23, 1999.

Chen's 112.5 kgs in the snatch also set a new world mark, surpassing the old record of 110 set by Lei Li of China on May 2 last year.

European champion Valentina Popova of Russia took the silver in a two-lift of 235 kilograms after lifting 107.5 in the snatch and 130 in the jerk. Greek Loanna Chatzlloan won the bronze by lifting 222.5 kilograms.
