China Eliminates France in Women's Fencing Team Epee

China caused a major upset in the women's fencing team epee quarterfinal Tuesday when it eliminated France, one the of the tournament's favourites at the Sydney Olympic Games on Tuesday.

The seventh-seeded Chinese team of Li Na, Liang Qin and Yang Shaoqi, won 45-42 over the French team of Valerie Barlois-Leroux, Laura Flessel-Colovic and Sangita Tripathi.

France dominated early in the match but China came back from being down 24-30 to win round seven 35-34 in a dramatic turnaround.

Hungary won convincingly against Norway 45-32, Russia beat Germany 45-43 and the Switzerland defeated Cuba 45-38.

China will meet Switzerland and Russia will fence favourites Hungary in the semi-finals later Tuesday.
