Top CPC Official Stresses Grass-Root Procuratorate WorkWei Jianxing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Monday urged related officials to do better procuratorate work at the grass-roots level.Wei, also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, made this remark at a national working meeting on promoting grass-roots level procuratorate work which opened today and was presided over by Han Zhubin, procurator-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate. "As an important law-executing body, procuratorates at all levels should on one hand carefully observe the law, and on the other hand enhance their supervisory power so as to guarantee the justice and sanctity of the law," he said. According to Wei, although progress has been made in the last two years, some problems still need to be solved especially at the grass-roots level. He admitted that the country's local procuratorates are still not so satisfactory -- the overall quality of staff is relatively low and not suitable for the need of the socialist market economy and the rule of law principle. "We must fight a lasting war to improve the work of the grass-roots level procuratorates," he said. He asked the related officials to improve the work in five aspects: good leadership, good teamwork, good mechanism, good performance and good image. He also asked the party committees at all levels to instruct, support and help the work of various procuratorates. State Councilor Luo Gan, who is also secretary of the Committee of Political Science and Law Under the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee and a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also attended today's working meeting.
