Major Agriculture Fair to Open in Beijing in November

The 2nd China International Exhibition of Equipment and Technology for Agricultural Product Processing (CAPP 2000) will be held from November 8 to 10 at the China National Agricultural Exhibition Centre in Beijing.

The exhibition is approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Science and Technology, and jointly sponsored by the Township Enterprises Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and China Grand Enterprises.

Business talks on technology exchanges and transfer and commodity purchasing, and seminars on investment opportunities in China will also be held during the event.

According to a spokesman of its organizing committee, more than 350 companies from China and overseas countries and regions displayed their products and technology involved in farm goods processing, fresh storage, packaging, transportation, irrigation, greenhouse, animal farming, health-care food production at the first such exhibition last year.

Most of the Chinese participants were township enterprises, the spokesman said.

According to official statistics, there are about 350,000 township enterprises which are engaged in the food processing industry in China. Forth-three per cent of Chinese food and drinks are processed by such enterprises. About 80 per cent of other farm goods products, including cotton, cereal, edible oil, vegetable and hemp, are processed by township enterprises.
