China Pockets in Second Gold Medal

Cai Yalin Wins Men's 10m Air Rifle Gold
Chinese sharpshooter Cai Yalin defeated his rivals to win the men's shooting 10m air rifle gold medal at the Sydney Olympic Games Monday morning in Sydney.

The 23-year-old Chinese, who led the qualifying round with 594 points, shot consistently in the final and took the crown with 696.4 points.

Artem Khadjibekov of Russia was second at 695.1 and his teammate Evgueni Aleinikov was third at 693.8.

It was an unlucky day for gold medal favourite Dirk Boschman of the Netherlands, who shot a six in his last string to rule him out of the final.

Boschman shot two perfect strings (100) before crashing out of medal contention, finishing with a disappointing 586.

Among other shooters who failed to qualify was Tavarit Majcharcheep of Thailand, who in the Asian Championships in January became the first to achieve a perfect score (600/600).

China has claimed two golds at the Sydney Olympics so far.
