Yang Xia Eyes Grand Slam of Champions

Newly-crowned Olympic gold medalist Yang Xia said Monday after taking the women's 53kg category title that her next aim is to complete a Grand Slam of national, Asian, world and Olympic Champions.

The 23-year-old Chinese, who won gold medals in all international competitions but the World Championships, said: "My first goal now is to win a world champion."

Yang, who began her weightlifting career at age 12, said she had expected she could win the Olympic gold medal and there was no surprise.

"I felt very relaxed in the competition," Yang said. "It's like a match at home. The jerk result of 125kg was even lower than my personal best."

"As a result, I'm very calm now," she said.
