Japan Fights Back to Beat China in Women's Softball

Japan failed to let a 45 minute delay upset their concentration on Monday, grinding out a 3-1 win against China to claim an early advantage in the Sydney Olympic Games women's softball medal calculations.

Japan and China have both been earmarked as possible dangers to the high ranking the United States and Australian teams, but it was Japana who earned the medal accolades in a slow but deliberate display.

China's Toa Hua scored the first run of the game, after Wang Ying hit a hard ball to the left outfield.

Japan came back at the bottom of the second when Naito Emi hit through to centerfield as a counter move for Yamada Miyo before Naito Emi touched home base for a 2-1 lead.

China's Wang Ying had a chance in the bottom of the fifth to convert runs with loaded bases but failed to put bat to ball.
