9 Olympians Suspended for Doping

A total of nine Olympians have been suspended for taking banned drugs, including six who have been banned from the athletes' village, International Olympic Committee officials said Monday.

IOC Medical Commission chief Patrick Schamash said the other three - all wrestlers, two from Egypt and one from Morocco - were suspended before they arrived at the village.

The six athletes kicked out of the village were a weightlifter from Chinese Taipei, an Iranian boxer, a swimmer from Kazakstan, a weightlifter from Norway and two weightlifters from Romania, he said.

All were the result of out-of-competition tests.

Schamash did not identify the drugs or athletes involved.
