Chinese Naval Fleet Calls on Seattle Port

The Chinese navy fleet consisting of a missile destroyer and a comprehensive supply ship berthed in Seattle's Everett Port Friday after a seven-day, 2,700-nm voyage from Hawaii.

Making the first visit to Seattle, the two Chinese ships were overwhelmingly received by overseas Chinese, students from China and 100 American children from a local Chinese-language school.

At the welcome ceremony, Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Lu Fangqiu inspected the U.S. Naval guards of honor.

The leading Chinese and U.S. naval officers present at the ceremony shared the view that the visit is of great importance for promoting relations between the two countries as well as their armed forces.

Seattle is home to the largest U.S. naval logistics base, various kinds of U.S. battleships including aircraft carriers.

The Chinese fleet, carrying 470 Chinese sailors and officers, left China's Qingdao Port on August 20 for its visit to the United States and Canada.
