China Invests 1.2 Billion Yuan for "Intelligent" Residential Quarters

Beijing's Ministry of Construction is planning to invest 1.2 billion yuan (US$144 million) in the construction of 50 "intelligent" residential quarters nationwide in 2000 and 2001.

The planned residential projects will be equipped with a computer network.

In addition, the internal network will provide e-mail and online shopping, education and medical services. Residents will also enjoy convenient online services covering finance, telecommunications and utilities.

Beijing's model residential quarters such as Wangjing, Yongtai and Shunxing Garden are on the list for installation, CCTV reported.
