Chinese Top Swimmers Eliminated in Olympic Heats

Chinese top women swimmers Chen Yan and Liu Limin were eliminated from their specialities at the Sydney Olympic Games in Sydney on Saturday.

Chen Yan, 19, world record holder in the 400m individual medley, was eliminated from her heat by finishing fourth in 4:45.65, which eventually put her in the 11th overall placing.

Liu Limin, 24, former world champion, clocked another disappointing 59.98 seconds, bidding an earlier farewell to the women's 100m butterfly.

Another Chinese woman Ruan Yi, 19, was also out of the finals in the 100m butterfly as she clocked in a further distance timing of 1:01.16.

To the worse, the Chinese women quartet also failed to make the 4x100m relay final as they tailed in their heat in 2:47.45.

The quartet is composed of Han Xue, Li Jin, Sun Dan and Yang Yu.
