Guangzhou City Art Museum Ready for Business

Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, has built an art museum which will be open on September 23.

According to local sources, the museum is located at the foot of Baiyun Mountain and covers an area of 19,000 sq m.

The main building of the museum has a total floor space of 40,000 sq m. The museum has nine halls which are devoted to nine prominent Chinese artists including Guan Shanyue and Li Xiongcai, two well-known painters of traditional Chinese painting from south China,one hall for paintings, another hall for calligraphy, and one more hall for ceramics, as well as one corridor for sculptures.

More than 10,000 pieces of artwork covering calligraphy, traditional Chinese paintings, canvas, woodcut, sculpture and inscriptions on tablet, and artistic collections such as Thangka (paintings on brocade) will be displayed at the museum.

Construction of the museum cost 200 million yuan (about 24.1 million U.S. dollars).
