Kuan Yao Porcelain Sold for Over One Million Dollars in Shanghai

Shanghai auctioned over 100 pieces of Kuan Yao Porcelain today at prices over 11 million yuan (approximately 1.3 million U.S. dollars).

There were 123 pieces for the auction, with almost 100 of the pieces being provided by Aisingiorro Qimeng, a descendant of Emperor Daoguang of Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) born in 1968.

It was the first time such a large number of Kuan Yao Porcelain pieces were on auction in China, as the porcelain was rarely handed down from ancient times.

Kuan Yao Porcelain was specially made for the use of emperors of Ming (1368-1644) and Qing dynasties. Authorities including Yang Xin, vice curator of the Palace Museum, identified that the porcelain pieces were all authentic.

A pair of tea cups with lids, the only one of its kind existed in the world, were sold for 1.01 million yuan.

Part of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to a welfare program aimed at orphans sponsored by China Charity Federation.
