Chinese Coach Predicts More Medals in Olympics

Yang Hanxiong, head coach of the Chinese men's weightlifting team, said here on Saturday that Chinese lifters will win medals of other colors than a bronze in the coming competitions.

Yang made the remarks after Wu Wenxiong won a bronze in the men's 56kg category with a total of 287.5kg.

"We're comparatively weak in the 56kg because Halil Mutlu of Turkey has dominated the division for a long time," he said.

Yang added that both Wu and Zhang Xiangxiang, fourth finisher in the event, had won more than expected. "They never lifted 287.5 kg in their training. They both lifted their best results."

Zhang lifted the same weight as Wu but had to surrender the bronze to his teammate because of heavier body weight.

Yang said that China could win a gold or silver in the men's 62kg class on Sunday. World champion Le Maosheng will represent China to compete in the category.

"Le enjoys some advantages in the 62kg," Yang said. "But he could meet tough challenge from Turkey's legend Naim Suleymanoglu, who has been widely regarded as the greatest weightlifter in

history."
