Shanghai Super Computer Center Kicks off First Application Projects

The Shanghai Super-computerCenter Saturday kicked off its first application projects, with the signing of co-operation pacts with several leading research bodies in the city.

Among its first customers are the Shanghai Institute of Life Sciences, the Shanghai Observatory, the Shanghai Pharmaceutical Research Institute and the Chemistry Department of Fudan University.��

The Shanghai Super Computer Center is a key project under the Shanghai Information Port Program. Its "Shenwei I" parallel computer is said to be the 48th fastest commercial computer in the world.

The center located in the Zhangjiang High-Tech Park in Pudong New District will be open to higher education institutions, enterprises and research institutions when it is formally inaugurated by the end of the year.
