Wang Yifu Satisifies with Silver Medal in Air Pistol

Wang Yifu was beaten in the finals to the second place at the men's 10m air pistol of the Sydney Olympic Games in Sydney on Saturday.

"I am quite satisfied," said the 40-year-old Chinese, a winner at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 and silver medalist in Atlanta four years ago.

Frenchman Franck Dumoulin set his second Olympic record for the day on his way to gold, with Wang took the silver and Igor Basinsky of Belarus the bronze.

Dumoulin broke the Olympic finals record by 4.1 points, held by Wang, with a total score of 688.9 points.

On winning the gold medal, Dumoulin said "it's hard to describe,I feel like I've been in a boxing match and I've won with a knock-out punch."

"I realised I had finally won in the final round when I looked at the scoreboard," he said, "Only when I reached the final, I realised that I had a chance."

Dumoulin and Wang both equalled the Olympic qualifying record on Saturday morning, but the Frenchman held off Wang, eventually triumphing by two points.

Both Wang and Dumoulin battled closely for the gold, swapping places several times throughout the final, the turning point coming on the eighth shot, where Dumoulin shot a 10.8 to Wang's 9.1.

Bronze medalist Basinsky and fourth placed Mikhail Nestrouev of Russia also fought hard for the remaining medal, Basinsky winning by just fourth tenths of a point.
