Chinese Weightlifters Feel No Pressure in Sydney

Chinese male weightlifters, who won two gold medals in the Atlanta Olympic Games four years ago, felt no pressure in mind as the competition is under way on Saturday.

Zhan Xugang, gold medalist in the 72kg division in Atlanta, will find he has had no advantage since he will have to compete in the 77kg category. But he was still confident.

"I know a lot of Chinese people hope I could win a second Olympic gold medal," he said. "It's very hard to live up to their expectation since the category has changed. But I feel no pressure.I will try my best."

Zhan's coach Wang Guoxin was satisfied that Zhan has kept good form after arriving in Sydney. "He will getting better and better before the competition. That's his characteristics."

World champion Le Maosheng, who will compete in the 62kg class, was the other favorite for a gold medal.

"His training has been very good since getting here. I believe he will not let us down," said his coach Zhu Chuqiang.
