U.S. Drug Czar Praises Chinese Anti-Doping ActionUnited States drug czar Barry McCaffrey praised the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) for its courageous action to combat doping in sports, the Chinese sports delegation said in Sydney Saturday.At a meeting with COC vice-president Li Furong on Friday, McCaffrey, director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy,congratulated to the COC for its bold action in support of a drug free Olympics. He said: "By removing athletes and coaches from your Olympics roster your nation has signaled its commitment to standing up to this serious problem we all share." "Over the past year the international community has made significant progress in addressing doping in sports. The establishment of the World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) and the initiation of 'out of competition' tests are very encouraging signs. The government's support of WADA has been critical to the great strides we have made," he said. He also hoped to strengthen the cooperation with the COC in the fight against doping.
