Festival to Showcase HK's Performing Arts

Hong Kong will hold a thematic festival entitled "Celebration of Hong Kong Performing Arts: A Tribute to the New Millennium" between mid-October 2000 and early February 2001 to mark the new millennium.

The festival, which features 19 programs in different art forms with more than 80 performances, will showcase the creativity and multiplicity of Hong Kong performing arts, according to the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), organizer of the event.

Jeff Ying, LCSD's chief manager in charge of performing companies and festivals said "Hong Kong arts scene has a remarkable evolution over the past twenty to thirty years, and many productions deserve re-staging."

He added that in addition to paying a tribute to these outstanding works, the department also encouraged new ideas and thoughts to let flourish the local performing arts scene by organizing the Festival.

"The new Millennium provides an exceptional chance to review the past and set eyes on the challenges of the future," Ying said.
