China's Fengyun 1-C Satellite Formally Listed into World Application Satellite Series

China's Fengyun 1-C meteorological satellite has been listed as the world application satellites by the World Meteorological Satellite Organization. It is China's first satellite, which has been listed in the series of the world application satellites. This points to that the meteorological satellite developed by China herself has reached the world advanced level.

According to "Wenhui Daily", Fengyun 1-C, launched on May 10, last year, is the third meteorological satellite for application of the synchronous solar orbit developed by Shanghai Aerospace Administration.

Meng Zhizhong, general designer of the satellite said that Fengyun 1-C has ten detecting channels, having five more channels than that of the American NOAA-15. And the quality of its three infrared passage cloud pictures is much better than that of the NOAA-15 as the global data it retrieved give an evenly resolving power of almost three kilometers. It also has three channels for marine detection, combining the functions of the NOAA-15 and the Seastar marine satellite. And so Fengyun 1-C has not only reached the world advanced level in technology but also borne China's own characteristics.
