Key State Expressway Opens to TrafficThe last section of an expressway linking Beijing and Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province, opened to traffic today. The 658.3 km long Beijing-Liaoning expressway is now completely operational. The 191-km-long Jinzhou-Shenyang section begins at Jinzhou City in Liaoning. This section is a major component of the Beijing-Shenyang expressway, a key State project. The total cost of the expressway was 20 billion yuan (about 2.4 billion U.S. dollars). The expressway, which began construction in 1996, runs through Beijing and Tianjin Municipalities, and Hebei and Liaoning Provinces. The top speed allowed on the six-lane expressway is 120 kmp/h, reducing the drive time from Beijing to Shenyang to half what it was before. The expressway is installed with an advanced traffic monitoring system, telecommunication equipment and toll-taking facilities. Thus far, Liaoning has opened many expressways linking Shenyang with other major cities across the province. The total expressway length in the province is 1,259 km.
