Postdoctoral Research Team Set Up to Support Steel Works

A seven-member postdoctoral research station was recently set up in a major Chinese steel producer in central China to further improve the quality of its steel products, industrial sources said.

The seven postdocs in the Wuhan Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. in this capital city of central China's Hubei Province are engaged in economic research and studies of some complex steel-related areas such as continuous casting, jointing, and residue treatment.

The company's 20 billion-yuan technological upgrading in recent years has transformed the works into an advanced works. The research station is urgently needed to solve many technological problems, said Liu Benren, general manager of the company.

The company is among China's well-performing steel works. Its silicon steel products are considered to be the thinnest in the country.

So far, several other steel works and household electric appliances producers, such as Baoshan and Chongqing steel companies and Chunlan and Hai'er groups, have established their own research stations composed of elite professionals.
