Exhibition on Contemporary Chinese Art to Open Soon

An Exhibition entitled "Inside Out: New Chinese Art" is expected to open on September 22 at the Hong Kong Museum of Art.

This is the first major international exhibition to explore how the changes have spurred artists in China's mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and elsewhere to produce an astonishing stream of mold-breaking works.

The exhibition debuted at the Asia Society Galleries in New York in 1998 and has since traveled to the United States, Mexico and Australia. Hong Kong is the last stop on the exhibition tour.

Mary Lee Turner, director of the Asia Society Hong Kong Center, noted that the exhibition was a sweeping and unique look at how Chinese artists have responded to the rapid modernization, changing political, cultural and social realities since the late 1980's.

To tie in with the month-and-half exhibition, a series of performances, lectures, panel discussions, student tours and other programs with participating artists and specialists on contemporary Chinese art will be organized.
