Training Role in Ensuring Air Safety Stressed

Hong Kong's Director of Civil Aviation Albert Lam stressed on first-rate training and operation in ensuring maximum air safety at an international air safety seminar held Thursday in Hong Kong.

"No matter how advanced the technology becomes, we must maintain the highest standards of training and operational procedures to ensure maximum air safety, and, furthermore, adapt to the changes," he said at the International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations Asia and Pacific Air Safety Seminar.

He pointed out that the technological advances achieved in the modern day cockpit in areas such as flight management systems and electronic centralized aircraft monitoring system have, under certain conditions, reduced the pilot's workload which is a major positive factor.

"However, the 'complacency' generated by these advances is a subject worth discussing," he noted.
