China Sets Up Command Center for Corruption Investigation

To effectively crack down on corruption cases that cross provincial borders and stave off local protectionism, China's Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) has set up the Command Center for Corruption Investigation.

"The Center is to strengthen the leadership of the SPP over local prosecution offices," said Zhao Dengju, deputy procurator-general of the SPP, here today at a press conference.

Provincial level command centers will be ready for work by the end of this year, he announced.

The SPP Center will be responsible for organizing the investigation of cases that involve more than one province, and cases that are not being dealt lawfully by local prosecution offices due to local protectionism, he said.
