Xi'an is going to build a "Sci-Tech City" in its high-tech development zone, the largest of its kind in China's western region.

According to sources, the "Innovative Sci-tech City" covers an area of 30 square km. It is composed of three parts: the Technological Innovation Zone with a strong capability of research and development and results transformation, the Electronic Community and the Chang'an Scientific Industry Base with a capacity for evolving into a scaled industry.

The "city" is as reported to be brought into shape in 2005. A number of research and development fields with superiority in the country will be formed in order to create a batch of industries as regards electronic information, biomedicine, new materials and some others. They will impose significant influence upon the social and economic development in the west with total revenue in forestry, industry and trade to reach 80 billion-yuan.

Since the establishment of the Xi'an High-tech Development Zone, it has always been an important window for Shaanxi's economic development to get in touch with the outside world, and the shaping of the sci-tech city is sure to play a big role in pushing ahead the economic development of the province.
