Tian Jiyun Calls for Further Ideological Emancipation

Tian Jiyun, a vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, has called for further ideological emancipation and boldness in creation for achieving development by reform and realizing stability through development.

He urged adherence to Deng Xiaoping Theory and the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee with Jiang Zemin at the core.

Tian made the remarks during a trip to east China's Zhejiang Province from September 9-12. He visited a number of private businesses and schools in Wenzhou, Taizhou, Ningbo and Shaoxing cities, accompanied by the provincial Party chief Zhang Dejiang and Governor Chai Songyue.

In his talks with local officials, Tian spoke highly of the social and economic achievements made by Zhejiang over the past two decades. Local people have abandoned the planned economy and adjusted to develop an economy that allows for the development of different types of ownership.

Zhejiang, though lacking in natural resources, has developed into a big economy, one of the leading provinces in terms of gross domestic product, foreign trade, revenue and the income of rural and urban residents, according to Tian.

Tian said that since the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh CPC Central Committee in 1978, Chinese cities and the countryside have experienced earth-shattering changes.

"Every major reform we have undertaken is a result of adhering to Deng Xiaoping Theory, ideological emancipation, and being bold in practicing," he stressed.
