United States Facing Historic Choice: Chinese Minister

Chinese Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Shi Guangsheng said Wednesday in Melbourne that the United States now is facing a historic choice.

According to a Chinese source, Shi Guangsheng told Dow Jones reporter that "to the United States, whether or not it can resolve the problem of giving China unconditionally the permanent natural trade relationship is in fact a historic choice of whether or not it wants the big Chinese market."

The minister pointed out that "China's development is irresistible, especially after it entered into the WTO."

"Entering into the WTO would boost China's reform and market opening process as well as its economic development, meanwhile provide countries in the world with a big commercial chance," he said.

Shi Guangsheng is attending the World Economic Forum' Asia-Pacific Summit.
