China Investment Trade Fair Ends in Xiamen

The five-day Fourth China International Investment and Trade Fair came to an end in Xiamen City, Fujian Province, Tuesday.

The fair was co-sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MFTEC) and the governments of Fujian Province and Xiamen City.

A total of 8,500 business people from 89 countries and regions participated in the event and signed contracts on 1,261 projects worth five billion US dollars.

The fair witnessed foreign trade totaling 786 million US dollars, including 669 million US dollars worth of exports by local businesses, according to Wen Zaixing, spokesman of the fair.

The fair is a national event, with forty-four delegations from all the Chinese provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, and concerned government departments being present at the fair. According to the official, over 40,000 Chinese businesspeople were involved in the fair.

The fair was successful in attracting investment for the underdeveloped western part of the country, he said, noting that agreements were reached for 501 projects involving a foreign investment of 4,166 million US dollars.

Over 140 overseas delegations attended the fair, while businesspeople from Taiwan accounted for one third of the total, he noted.

The fair also saw the largest group of journalists, totaling 1, 400 from over 300 media, according to the official.

The fifth event will be held in the city next year, he said.
