China's Geographical Center Marked
A two-meter-tall monument marking the country's geographical center was recently erected. Situated at 103.23 degrees east longitude and 35.33 degrees north latitude, the monument, named "Center of the Country", is in Gansu province.
In the middle of the monument are 56 pillars symbolizing the nation's 56 ethnic minorities. In the lower part, upholding a map of China, are pillars representing the nation's 34 municipalities and provinces and autonomous regions.
The tower base covers 960,000 square centimeters which stands for China's territory of 960,000 square kilometers.
