Foster Military Talent with Jiang Zemin's Strategy: General

General Zhang Wannian has urged military academies to foster high-quality military professionals by developing the army through science and technology -- a strategy formulated by Jiang Zemin, chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC).

Zhang, who is a vice chairman of the CMC, made the call during his recent visit to the National Defense Science and Technology University in Changsha, the provincial capital of Hunan, from September 5-8.

During his stay, Zhang visited different institutes under the university and congratulated the teachers and staff on Teachers' Day Sept. 10.

The army needs a large number of high-quality military talent for its cross-century development, the general said. He quoted Jiang as saying that a powerful nation depends on science and technology, while the development of science and technology relies on professionals.
