Customs Police Urged to Crack down on SmugglersState Councilor Wu Yi has called for further consolidating and improving the country's anti-smuggling program and better development the customs police.The official made the call Tuesday at a national conference on anti-smuggling. On January 5, 1999, the customs police force was founded as part of the efforts to build a new anti-smuggling program, according to the official. She praised the police force for its role in cracking down on smugglers, which has contributed to the remarkable increase in the country's customs duties and foreign currency earnings. Meanwhile, the police have also helped fight corruption and create a better environment for the reform of state-owned enterprises, she noted. There will be no final victory in the fight against smuggling, she said, urging the police to keep a high pressure on the smugglers and deal with them according to law.
