Kremlin: Special Service Foils Attempt on Putin's Life
The Kremlin security service said Tuesday that it foiled an attempt to murder Russian President Vladimir Putin during August's informal CIS summit in the Ukrainian resort of Yalta.
Russia's special services heard of the assassination plan ahead of the meeting of leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Interfax news agency quoted Sergei Devyatov, the official responsible for public relations of the Kremlin's bodyguard service, as saying.
"Our service received threats against President Vladimir Putin's life during his stay in Ukraine. The information was thoroughly checked by our service and our Ukrainian colleagues, and the conspiracy was prevented," Devyatov said.
The job of the Kremlin bodyguard service is "to ensure Russian president's maximum security wherever he is," he said.
