PLA Mental Illness Control Center Set Up

The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Tuesday established a mental illness prevention and control center at the No. 102 Hospital of the PLA Nanjing Military Area Command.

This is seen as a move by the Chinese army to carry out its mental health work in a scientific manner, according army sources.

The No. 102 Hospital has made remarkable progress in the research and application of psychology among PLA officers and men. A series of research projects have been completed by its research fellows, including over 20 tools for studying the psychological conditions of servicemen.

In recent years, military psychologists have helped create greater awareness about mental health wellness among PLA officers and soldiers, so as to increase their psychological endurance.

The hospital has published the Manual on Mental Health for Servicemen and 250 Questions and Answers on Mental Health.

The hospital's experts have held over 120 lectures on the subject, provided therapy for more than 50,000 servicemen, trained almost 300 part-time psychologists for grass-roots army units, and set up a three-level mental illness prevention and control network in the Nanjing Military Area Command.
