Clinton Campaigns for HillaryUS President Bill Clinton spent a busy day campaigning on Monday - but this time it was for his wife Hillary who is seeking a Senate seat in New York.Her campaign reaches an important milestone on Tuesday with the official selection of the Democratic candidate, although Hillary is expected to win easily. But Mrs Clinton faces a tougher fight on Wednesday: she and her Republican rival, Rick Lazio are to hold their first public debate. Calling himself Hillary's "cheerleader-in-chief",President Clinton attended half a dozen events to support her and other Democratic candidates. Mr Clinton said it was the first election season since 1974 that he had not been standing for office himself. "This is an interesting time in my life," he told a fundraising lunch for Democratic Representative Jim Maloney in Connecticut. "My family has a new candidate and my party has a new leader, I've become the cheerleader in chief, and I love it," he said. The president began his day at a Jewish community centre outside New York, went off to Connecticut to support Mr Maloney, and then back for other speaking engagements and photo opportunities in New York City. At one stop, he praised his wife for her long work with children. Mr and Mrs Clinton and their daughter Chelsea were due to stay the night at the New York house they bought last year, before casting their votes together on Tuesday in the New York state primary. |
