Earthquake Hits Northwest China's Qinghai Province

An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale hit the area between Xinghai and Maduo of northwest China's Qinghai Province at 8:27 a.m. Beijing Time Tuesday, according to the China Seismological Bureau.

The bureau reported that the epicenter is located at 35.3 degrees north latitude and 99.3 degrees east longitude.

Strong tremors were felt in Xining, capital of Qinghai Province, and tremors were also felt in Lanzhou, capital of Gansu Province.

An aftershock measuring 5.2 degrees on Richter scale also took place at the jolted area at 9:19 a.m.

There has been no report of casualties yet.
