Chinese, US Foreign Ministers Meet on Relations

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan met at the UN headquarters Monday with US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, with both sides speaking highly of the latest meeting between Chinese President Jiang Zemin and US President Bill Clinton.

The two presidents met in New York Friday on the sidelines of the UN Millennium Summit held at the UN headquarters September 6-8. They discussed bilateral relations and issues of common concern.

Tang and Albright shared the belief that the latest meeting between Jiang and Clinton was of great significance since the two leaders had agreed to continue to contribute to healthy and stable ties between the two countries.

Tang and Albright also discussed other issues of common concern.

The Chinese foreign minister flew to New York a week ago accompanying President Jiang for the Millennium Summit, the ever largest gathering in the UN history.

Tang also met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa here Monday, but no details were made available. The Chinese foreign minister planned to meet his counterparts from various countries before flying to Cuba on Saturday, the first stop of his Latin- American tour.
