Insurance Revenue Hits Six Billion Yuan in Shanghai

Shanghai, China's financial and business center, registered an insurance revenue of 6.46 billion yuan from January to June this year.

Life insurance reached 4.6 billion yuan while property insurance hit 1.9 billion yuan, announced Zhou Yanli, director of the Shanghai Office of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission.

By June, the number of domestic and foreign insurance agencies in Shanghai had risen to 67, employing more than 7,000 local people. Of all the insurers, joint ventures saw the fastest growth with their premiums increasing nine fold over the past seven months.

Moreover, half of the Shanghai-based insurance agencies have opened websites, providing on-line services to customers.
