China Ready to Promote Relations with EU

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi said Tuesday that China hopes to promote the long-term and stable development of the China-EU constructive partnership based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit and seeking common ground while reserving differences.

Sun made the remarks in reply to a question concerning the report released by the EU Commission, in which EU stood for strengthening dialog and cooperation with China.

"We have noticed that the EU Commission published such a report, reviewing and assessing China-EU relations and their cooperation in various fields and putting forth some proposals," he said, adding that China welcomes this.

China-EU relations have shown good momentum in recent years thanks to joint efforts, he said. Leaders of the two sides have had frequent contacts, and political dialog and consultation have been fruitful, and cooperation in economic, trade, scientific, technological and other areas has expanded.

"China places emphasis on its relationship with the EU as well as the EU's rising role and position in the international arena," he said.

China is pleased to see the steady development of bilateral relations, he said, adding China holds that as multi-polarity and economic globalization are moving forward rapidly, therefore, to establish and develop a constructive partnership between the two sides accords with the shared and long-term interests, and will help promote world peace and stability.
