Symposium for Chinese, Japanese Women Opens
A symposium sponsored by the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) to promote understanding between Chinese and Japanese women opened Tuesday.
The symposium is a part in implementing the Beijing Declaration and the Platform for Action established at the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women (FWCW) in 1995. The gathering also was designed to further the mutual understanding and cooperation between Chinese and Japanese women.
During the three-day meeting, Miki Mutuko, chairperson of the Asian Women Friendship Society, and more than 100 Japanese participants and their Chinese counterparts will discuss issues such as women's participation in politics, women's education and health.
Gu Xiulian, vice president and first secretary of secretariat of the ACWF, said at the opening meeting that she believed that the symposium would help promote the cooperative partnership between Chinese and Japanese peoples.
