Tibet Hopes for More Exchanges with Taiwan: Xu Mingyang

Xu Mingyang, vice executive chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region, indicated that Tibet hopes for stronger economic and cultural exchanges with Taiwan.

Xu made these remarks in the Tibet Hotel during a recent interview by reporters from across the Taiwan Straits. He welcomed Taiwan journalists who joined their mainland counterparts in forming a group for the first time to cover news in Tibet and expressed the hope that this activity would promote Tibet's economic and cultural exchanges with the inland of the motherland and Taiwan Island, and that Taiwan compatriots would join the people of all Chinese nationalities in safeguarding the unification of the motherland and enhancing national unity.

After their entry into Tibet on September 8, most members of the group had highland climatic reactions. But very soon they have tided over this period and started their covering work as scheduled. Over the last few days, journalists from the two sides of the Strait have jointly interviewed the leaders of Tibet Autonomous Region and visited Jokhang Monastery, Potala Palace, Tibet Museum, Norbulingka Park and Sera Monastery, etc.
