Hong Kong Asian Games Bid Mascot Named "Hong Kong"

The mascot of Hong Kong's 2006 Asian Games bid has been officially named as "Hong Kong" to reflect Hong Kong's characteristics of being full of energy and prosperity.

The name was revealed by Timothy Fok, Vice Chairman of Asian Games Bid Committee cum President of Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, during the 2006 Asian Games Bid Mascot Naming Competition Prize Presentation Ceremony held at the Hong Kong International Airport.

"We have received about 1,500 entries. Apart from the local entries, some of the suggestions were sent from the Chinese mainland and Europe," Fok said.

"Through an open competition to name the mascot, we hope to further raise community awareness towards the Asian Games bid and to get the public involved more in our work," he added.

The winner, Yam Chi Hung, was chosen by a panel of judges comprising members of the Bid committee and four guest judges.
