Special TV Program for Teachers Aired Last Night

"Candle Night," a special TV program to commemorate China's 16th Teachers' Day, was broadcast last night by China Educational Television (CETV).

Sponsored by the China Charity Federation (CCF), CETV, Phoenix TV and Hubei TV, the program aims to highlight Chinese teachers' contributions in nurturing the country's younger generation.

In China, teachers are compared to candles, because both share the characteristics of self-sacrifice.

The Candle Project, initiated by CCF in 1998, is also named for teachers and aims to lessen the burden of teachers in poor rural schools and improve their professional qualifications.
