Album on Canadian Chinese Laborers PublishedChina has published a photo album about Chinese Laborers who built railways in Canada over a century ago.More than 15,000 Chinese crossed the ocean and worked as laborers laying the Pacific Railway in Canada during 1881-1895. Containing hundreds of photographs and a large amount of written material, the album depicts a vivid picture of the hardy spirit that the Chinese people demonstrated in extremely harsh work conditions and natural environment. The Chinese workers took great risks and suffered great losses and pains in building the most dangerous sections of the east-west railway in Canada. According to former Canadian Governor Rome Le Blanc, the construction of the Pacific Railway is the proudest and most amazing achievement in the history of Canada, through which the efforts and toil of tens of thousands of Chinese people were recognized. The album is regarded as a condensed history of the Chinese community in Canada. It sold out shortly after its debut in Canada earlier this month. The album is published by the Yunnan Publishing House in southwest China. |
